| Help Needed - Stop NAIS Help stop the National
Animal Identification System. The USDA has been
trying to implement a program to help control livestock
diseases. However, this program has been crafted
like a sledgehammer for thumbtacks and will do little
to solve any potential problems.
Please read about the program, its potential effects on The Farm and Ranch Freedom Alliance website. In addition there is a sample letter to the USDA and how to submit comments on the proposed rules here. An Australian I heard speak who was in favor of a similar system no longer wants any part of it. She was almost in tears as the system had added significant extra work. The technology needed sometimes did not work causing major problems. In addition when input errors occurred, they were almost impossible to correct, causing many government workers to quit. This system will not help to prevent harmful pathogens from entering our food supply. If the USDA's goals were to protect the public, they would allow independent processing plants to test for mad cow disease, but they have barred Creekstone Farms from doing so. Negative Impacts of NAIS Drive Small Farms and Ranches Out of Business. Increase Our Vulnerability By Reducing Options for Local Foods. Destroy Personal Property Rights as We Know Them. Invade Personal Privacy. Ha= rm Animal Welfare. Burden Religious Freedom. Create Technological Problems. Increase Food Costs, Taxes, and Govern= ment Bureaucracy Without Value |
| Thank you for your continued support of local
sustainable agriculture!
Thank you everyo= ne who has helped to give us a great start to this new year. With all the bad news out there, I feel like sustainable agriculture is one of the few bright spots. We had a great crowd turn out for Yampatika's first soup session, with about 60 people in attendance. We are looking into a trial market garden this summer, pondering a few dairy cattle to experiment with cheese making, potentially a milk share, wheat and goats in the future. Let us know if there is anything you would like to see us explore first to bring you locally produced, high quality foods.
