June Deliveries

Denver - Northern Colorado

Wednesday June 3rd and Thursday June 4th

Call John at 970-367-6184 to schedule a delivery.

Steamboat Springs Farmers Markets begin Saturday June 13th from 9 - 2 PM Saturdays throughout the summer.

We should have at least spinach by the 1st of July, probably potatoes, onions and who knows what else might be producing by then. This, of course, in addition to our quality grass finished beef.

Dear John,

Dear John, It has been an exciting spring at the Ranch! Jesse and Fleur have joined us for the summer from Australia on and educational exchange program for the summer. Chris has also joined us for the summer and maybe longer if we work out the details on opening a small dairy on the ranch also. If you are interested in a cow share opportunity, please let me know as we are looking into buying three brown swiss cows which have been bred for once a day milking on a grass only based diet.

I have been working on our market garden mainly focused on Potatoes and Onions. Though I have expanded the Rockin J Gym and added a sauna. this new feature that will enhance the workout experience at the Rockin J Gym, in addition to the log toss, bucking hay bales, fence post dig or the redneck thigh master (horseback riding) you can sweat out the toxins while pruning tomatoes.

We are looking forward to another good summer of irrigation and working towards more intensive grazing of our cattle. We hope to see you at the Steamboat farmers market or on one of our deliveries to Denver and the northern front range this summer.

Have a great Thanksgiving and Christmas!

by Christine Jones

Summary: Several centimeters of topsoil per year can form under favorable conditions, which good management can create. This article explains how.

"The nation that destroys its soil destroys itself" (Roosevelt 1937)

The future for Australia depends on the future of our soil.

The most meaningful indicator for the health of the land, and the long-term wealth of a nation, is whether soil is being formed or lost. If soil is being lost, so too is the economic and ecological foundation on which production and conservation are based.

In little over 200 years of European land-use in Australia, more than 70 percent of land has become seriously degraded (Flannery 1994). Despite our efforts to implement 'best practice' in soil conservation, the situation continues to deteriorate.

We are looking forward to seeing you this summer either at the farmers market or we will be having a ranch field day on August 1st. Stay tuned for more information on our ranch field day. We will also be hosting a talk by Cindy Dvergston on wholistic management on July 30th in Steamboat Springs. A $10 donation to Deep Roots is requested for attendance to the talk.

See you all soon and thank you for supporting local sustainable agriculture.

Sincerely,

John Weibel
